Peter Dinklage Talks Fatherhood, Thrones & Scooping The Golden Globe

First Published: January 16, 2012 2:35 PM EST Credit: Access Hollywood Caption 2012 Golden Globes Backstage: Peter Dinklage Wins!LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Peter Dinklage stepped away from his 6-week-old baby girl his first child on Sunday night to pick up the Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series at the Golden Globes, and he was feeling nervous. Backstage, after his win, Peter told Access Hollywoods Billy Bush that he and wife Erica Schmidt were keeping in close contact with their babysitter. Asked who was more nervous to be away from their newborn, Peter took the blame. I think maybe me. But shes the one texting, because I think Id be sweating. I dont think my texts would work, he said. The actor, who plays Tyrion Lannister in HBOs Game of Thrones, a role that sees him as the new Hand of the King in the upcoming Season 2, said this part has been one of his greatest ever acting adventures. Its up there, yeah, Peter told Billy. Its sort of a continuing thing. Ive never been a part of something that might go on for about six or seven years, so thats fun to explore. Peter won the Emmy last year for playing Tyrion, but he wasnt convinced hed land Sundays Golden Globe. It would be weird if I had a feeling that I was gonna win, it would be arrogant of me, so no, youve just gotta sort of let the people around you be confident about it and then you just sort of go into a bit of a vacuum when they call out those names and hope for the best, Peter said. Those are amazing actors though, in that category. Tim Robbins and Paul Giamatti and Guy Pearce and Eric [Stonestreet] are just incredible actors. Who am I? While playing Tyrion may be a celebrated role, Peter, who recently wrapped up filming on Season 2 of Thrones knows becoming a dad tops it all. [Its] incredible, he said. Life changing. Game of Thrones Season 2 premieres on HBO on April 1 at 9 PM ET/PT. Copyright 2012 by NBC Universal, Inc. All rights reserved.
